Curry Leaf Cafe serves award-winning Indian street food, curries and craft beers from three colourful and unique dining spots in Brighton: the original Brighton Lanes Cafe, Brighton Station kiosk and new Kemptown Kitchen. Curry Leaf Cafe is the brainchild of Hyderabad-born Indian chef Kanthi Kiran Thamma and journalist Euan Sey. The pair first met when Kanthi answered Euan’s advert on Gumtree for a flatmate to share his home in Brighton. After nine months of cooking, planning and searching for a suitable venue, in April 2014 they opened their first restaurant – the Curry Leaf Cafe, located in the heart of Brighton’s Lanes. Since then, Curry Leaf Cafe has garnered national attention from newspapers such as the Guardian and Telegraph, was listed as a 'Local Gem' in the 2016 & 2017 Waitrose Good Food Guide and won 'Best Newcomer, South Coast' at the 2015 Asian Curry Awards. Chef Kanthi Thamma's career in food started at the Taj Hotel in Goa. After a variety of catering roles in Southern India, Switzerland and the USA, he moved to the UK in 2007, eventually becoming Food Champion at Jamie Oliver’s Recipease in Brighton – experiences that left him with a profound respect for quality seasonal ingredients. His menus change according to season, featuring high-quality locally sourced meats & vegetables combined with the finest imported Indian spices for maximum flavour. Around half the menu is vegetarian, and a wide selection of vegan, gluten- and dairy-free dishes is offered throughout the day at all three Curry Leaf Cafe sites.
