HR:Kavana u prizemlju otvorena je 1780., postavši istinskim središtem društvenog života Splita,žarištem Hrvatskog narodnog preporoda u drugoj polovici 19. st., sa "Stolom mudraca", oko kojega su se tijekom prve polovice 20. st. okupljali intelektualci i umjetnici. Od srednjovjekovnih kuća koje je objedinio sklop hotela, s neoklasicističkim pročeljem prema trgu iz 1887., vidljivo je samo pročelje ranogotičke palače iz 13. st. prema sjevernoj ulici.
