Wap-en-take (n) “Besides being divided into three Ridings, East, North and West (a Riding being derived from the Norse word “thriding,” meaning a third part) Yorkshire was further sub-divided into administrative areas called Wapentakes - the Danelaw equivalent of an Anglo-Saxon Hundred in most other counties. The word derived from an assembly or meeting place, usually at a cross-roads or near a river, where literally one’s presence or a vote was taken by a show of weapons, where-in after a night of merriment would ensue.” We wanted to create ‘A Little Piece of Yorkshire’, by combining a Bakery, Café and Bar to serve and supplier the local community. Bread - Our bread is freshly baked on site daily, for you to experience at home, or to enjoy as part of our delicious menu. Our bread is vegan friendly. Gluten-free is also available on request. Cakes - Sweet treats are baked on site by our magical Cake Witch, always providing Vegan or Gluten-Free goodies. Coffee & Tea – Our coffee is provided by Coffeecare, a family run company based in Skipton, alongside tea from Taylors of Harrogate (Yorkshire Gold is obviously the standard choice!). Food – Our menu is as local as possible, sourcing all ingredients daily from our neighbours in Kirkgate Market. Meat & eggs provided by Malcolm Michaels butchers with fruit & veg from Neil’s. Beer - We are all about Yorkshire, so you will find one whole fridge, as well as, cask & keg lines devoted to local ale - more often than not showcasing the Brethren at Northern Monk, Kirkstall Brewery & North Brewing Co three of our most local breweries. Spirits - At least two shelves on our back bar are dedicated to Yorkshire spirits. On t’ Wall – Artwork provided by local artists, with most pieces up for sale. Even our piano has had a make-over by our neighbouring graffiti artists, at Art Official.
