This is a great place in Nizhny Novorod that locals love and is a fine place for tourists from abroad. A classic problem when visiting Russia is that it's easy to find plenty of restaurants specializing in world cuisines of various kinds - Italian, Sushi, Chinese, Central Asian, French, etc., etc. - but not so easy to find a first class place specializing in the Russian food you may have read about way back during the cold war. Mokrousov is a retro decor place, as if you've stepped back in time to some elite restaurant in a fine private residence in Soviet times. Retro chic is happening now in Russia, so that appeals to locals as well. After all, unless you're pretty old by now you don't remember what it was actually like back in the day.
