With its stone walls, big wooden tables and wicker armchairs spread over two floors, crêperie Candelma has arrived on rue de Seine. In an area where cheap food is not easy to find, it’s a welcome addition to the 6th. Go for the €13 lunch menu: a savoury galette, a sweet crepe and a ‘boule’ of cider or a soft drink. A la carte is more expensive, with galettes from €8 to €12. The set menu includes the choice of a ‘complète’ (the classic ham, egg and cheese combo), ‘From the Ghetto,’ (cheddar, beef, cider-fried onions, egg and homemade smoked tomato sauce), or the ‘From the Garden’ (cheddar, tofu, cider-fried onions, egg and tomato sauce). These concoctions might upset crepe purists but they're filled to burst, perhaps too full – it seems a shame as the organic buckwheat pancake base was barely noticeable. The classic dessert crepes (Nutella, lemon-sugar or salted caramel) do the job though. It may not blow your mind, but Candelma is a great option if you’re in the 6th with an empty stomach and a not a lot of money to burn.
