After years of vacancy and decay, 't Wapen van Drenthe was reopened in 2018. Jan Hendrik Stoker was the first owner of 't Wapen van Drenthe. In 1780 he bought the two plots closest to the center. He wanted to start a gentlemen's lodging house at De Kolk, something for which, in his view, there had to be a market in Assen at that time. He didn't waste any time and in 1782 the coat of arms was first used as a catering facility. That is why we are also happy that we can repeat history from 2018, with this the ancient destination of yesteryear is back. We want to turn it into a renowned stopping place for a nice cup of coffee, and of course serve a high-quality dinner for an affordable price.
