On the Schimmerweg in Emmen, in a beautiful building dating from 1907, the couple Gerrie and Marianne de Jonge took over the 't Wapen van Emmen on November 3, 1979. In the beginning, the family with three children lived and worked in the busy café. However, it slowly turned into a restaurant and the living area was included. In the mid-1980s, Gerrie and Marianne converted the building into a full-fledged restaurant and a hall was added, which is still rented out for weddings and parties today. In recent years, brothers Martijn and Maurice have become increasingly involved in business operations. While Maurice runs the restaurant with a smile, his brother guarantees an excellent catering service. In this combination they fill a gap in the market. For the older people in the city they have a Senior Meal Service, which provides fresh hot meals every day.
