One of the few restaurants in St. Petersburg that has survived from the Soviet period, Demyanova Ukha on the Petrograd Side remains enormously popular - booking is recommended - thanks to a reliable menu of classic, simply prepared Russian fish dishes, including several types of ukha, a traditional fish broth that should always be accompanied with a shot of vodka. The no-frills interiors of the restaurant have been discretely modernized, but otherwise this is a great place to soak up a little Soviet atmosphere, and one of very few places in town that serves decent local fish.
