The Restaurant, located in the heart of the City of London, in a cobbled courtyard, is a sophisticated place in all senses where European flavors dominate the menu, and fans drool over the huge, juicy and gorgeous chateaubriand. The generously spaced, high-ceiling Old Restaurant is a picture of elegance, with its seven original John Hoyland paintings and huge windows. Our Private Dining Rooms are The City of London’s most charming and characterful venues for private events be they: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Champagne and Canapé Parties, Business Meetings, Corporate Dinners or Private Celebrations. The Don in question is George Sandeman, a Scotsman who in 1798 took over these premises for his port, sherry and wine emporium. Serious imbibing is still central to the appeal of this vintage City aristocrat, and the list pays homage to the site’s heritage as well as highlighting wines from the owners’ Trinity Hill vineyard in New Zealand. Locals adore everything about The Don, from its “discreet” City of London courtyard location to its uniquely cosseting atmosphere – perfect for long business lunches or private dinners. The late John Hoyland’s original works are spread throughout the ground floor, which have been blown up to create dramatic translucent blinds. We have a second dining room; The White Room with its dramatic 15 foot John Hoyland abstract paintings, Shooting Stars Adjoining the White Room, tucked in behind the Wine Wall, is the Wine Study. The Don Restaurant is also available for private dining on Saturday and Sunday.
