The origins of Heiploeg go back to before 1900, when the Heidema and Van der Ploeg family businesses were founded in Zoutkamp, the Netherlands. In the early 1970s, Heiploeg became the name of the company that arose from the collaboration between Heidema and Van der Ploeg. In 1999, Heiploeg's state-of-the-art processing plant just outside Zoutkamp was put into operation. The site in Zoutkamp is now Heiploeg's specialized factory for chilled seafood products. Heitrans, the transport division of Heiploeg, is also located here. Heiploeg has its own state-of-the-art peeling station in Tétouan, Morocco, where North Sea shrimps are peeled by hand. At the end of 2012, Heiploeg established an office in India, in order to also be present in Asia, the main source of tropical shrimp. Heiploeg employs approximately 2,500 people. Approximately 35 million kg of end products are produced annually, based on shrimps and selected other types of crustaceans and shellfish, such as mussels and scallops. Heiploeg is a leading shrimp supplier in Europe and number 1 in Europe in the field of North Sea shrimps. In this way, Heiploeg enables European consumers to enjoy a wide range of high-quality shrimp products, made from shrimps from all over the world and distributed through retail and food service channels, wholesalers and food processing companies.
