Mehmet Ünal, who came to İstanbul from Şanlıurfa / Siverek with his family in 1970, started to sell meatballs in his portable car in the neighborhood of Bayrampaşa, which is mostly inhabited by Bosniaks. For 20 years, Mehmet Usta, who continued his meatballs on the Martyr Kamil Balkan Street, decided to open a small shop on the same street in order to meet the increasing demand. Since the demand for Köfteci Mehmet Usta continues to increase, the need for opening a larger restaurant in Şehit Kamil Balkan Street again emerged in 2005. Mehmet Ünal's transfer of jobs to his children coincides with this period.
