It sank in the Persian Gulf in 1961 due to a massive explosion on the port side, which caused the deaths of 238 of the 810 passengers on board at the time. The boat had sailed from Bombay on a round trip to Basra, when she arrived at Dubai to drop off passengers and cargo, due to high winds the captain decided to take the boat out of harbour to in effect ride the storm, the people on board thus included friends and family who had just come to wave their loved ones off and shipping officials. As the ship was trying to manoeuvre back into Dubai, a huge explosion triggered by a bomb caused huge amounts of damage to the ship, setting off many fires.
