The Hauswirth company was founded by Franz Hauswirth sen. founded in 1949 as a pastry shop in the Gablenzgasse in Vienna. Very early, in addition to the classic confectionery items also hollow figures made of chocolate were produced, which were also delivered to other pastry shops. Soon, the emerging supermarket chains could be won as customers for the sweet Easter bunny and Santa Claus made of chocolate. The production and processing of chocolate gradually became more and more important, while the connected confectionery increasingly lost importance and was finally given up altogether. The company moved to the Wichtelgasse, in the 16th district of Vienna, where they specialized in the production of chocolate hollow bodies and fine confectionary on a larger scale. However, the steady growth of the following years also made this new production facility soon too small and the company was relocated to Burgenland, home of Franz Hauswirth, to Kittsee in the early sixties.
