This bar was recommended to us for poncha by our Airbnb host. The owner, Ricardo, greeted us when we sat down and stayed to talk with us literally the entire time. He made our ponchas at the table right in front of us. He first made them the regular "hardcore" (his word) way, and after both my wife and I made some faces at how strong they were, he added some Brisa (local soda) and that made it more palatable. We got to hear about his travels around the globe and about his thoughts on Funchal and Madeira wine and a host of other things. And the ponchas were only 2.50 euro each, which is the best price we could find in Funchal for a good poncha.
