Founded in 1913 by Giacinto Callipo in Pizzo (Vibo Valentia), a town in the heart of the Gulf of Sant'Eufemia known since ancient times for tuna fishing, the company was the first in Calabria, and among the first in Italy, to box the prized Mediterranean tuna caught with the system of "fixed traps". In its nearly 100 years of history it has successfully established itself in Italy and in the world, becoming one of the leading reference brands in the sector. Since 1981 it has been led by the Knight of Labor Pippo Callipo, who represents the fourth generation of the family. The real secret of the quality of Callipo products is in their processing which is carried out, starting from whole tuna, completely in Italy, in the Callipo di Maierato (VV) plant.
