In the year 1010 King Lý Thái Tổ made an imperial decision to locate the site of his capital along the banks of the Red River. Hanoi, originally christened Thăng Long, is still a beacon representing this great dynasty, and has evolved through the ages to become a mélange of traditional culture and modernity that continues to tempt the senses among locals and visitors alike.
