Nao was one of the first new wave of quality new paladares to open in Old Havana and since then it has established a firm reputation as an elegant, cozy and romantic place, which serves decent food, a great cocktail at reasonable prices. On the downside the alley in which it is located (just around the corner from El Templete/La Barca restaurants overlooking the harbor) does look a bit dodgy. Don’t be put—off this is touristy Old Havana and you will be fine. This is a small paladar set on two levels with lots of heavy wood which has been nicely decorated. Cluttered it may be but it is also cute and gives a sense of having been lived in without being too stuffy. Upstairs is generally a bit quieter especially if you are not a fan of classical violin (it is all right not to be!). Service is typically very good, although, like many places, can be a little variable and if it is quiet can be a little over attentive. The menu is basically Cuban-Creole with some international dishes. The lamb is excellent as is the pork, look for tostones, ropa vieja and quality rice.
