Initiated by a private donation from the Vorster family, the Kaiser-Wilhelm Bad with its adjoining public library was opened in 1914. Initially used as a military bathing establishment, it was available to the people of Cologne from 1947 onwards as the Deutz-Kalker Bad and public bathing establishment. Until it closed in 1996, school swimming and DLRG courses took place here and swimming clubs were based there. From 2008 to 2010, the historic complex was converted into the Hotel Stadtpalais with an extension. The hotel opened in May 2010. In the lobby area is Bio's Bar, named after the renowned German entertainer Dr. Alfred Biolek. After extensive renovation under strict monument preservation aspects, the KWB restaurant in the Stadtpalais opened its doors in 2019. It is now available to you as a restaurant, bar or for parties and events for up to 350 people.
