She was a gifted North Jutland girl who came to Hald Hovedgaard as cook and housekeeper with the disputed judge and gentleman Frederik Schinkel sometime around 1780. The bloated Schinkel once proclaimed that: "God is God and the King is the King, but I am the Evil mad me the third man in the country! " Still, Birgitte Hansdatter managed to respect herself, and when in 1786 she married her cousin Kristen Agerskov, they got hold of the gentleman Non Mølle. With that, Birgitte had her own tumbleweed. She quickly settled into the mill and even expanded with a stamping plant for the treatment of cloth, and on the other side of the road she bought a piece of moorland in 1802. Here, in 1808, she had her inn built. Her skill in the utility room and kitchen quickly brought her new inn in good standing. Not least the fried eels and Birgitte's powerful, home-brewed beer made good luck, but not only that. The rumor of her abilities reached the capital, as in 1823 she received a silver cup in the prize for "Diligence and Proficiency" by the Royal Danish Housekeeping Society.
