If you are looking for a classic Thai meal, where all the dishes go to plan, the environment is comfortable and the staff are friendly, you can go Krua Khun Mae just off Cockburn Street. The place is comfortable, as restaurants gather in a series of small rooms that are nicely lit, while the wine list is unusually reasonable and perfectly appropriate for the kitchen. Thai fish cakes are satisfying but try spring rolls as well. Crunchy, well-filled and well-seasoned, they are extraordinary cut. Charred and pink tiger slice, diluted in sour peppers, lemons, rice powder and the sharp salt of fish sauce. Gaeng pha with chicken, hot jungle curry flavored with Chinese ginger and holy basil. Pad Thai is very fun, and if you are stuffed at this point, you will definitely need to take the leftovers home to encourage you the next day. A great place to spend private evenings, or just treat depression in the middle of the week.
