Winning Best Midlands Restaurant at the 2012 British Curry Awards and the Best UK Restaurant at the Cobra Good Curry Awards in 2007, Itihaas is a pioneering Indian restaurant in Birmingham. Split between luxurious Colonial and Maharaja Suites, the restaurant offers opulent cuisine inspired by the Moghul era. With a name that literally translates to ‘history’, Itihaas focusses on Indian heritage with a menu ranging from marinated lamb shank, cooked in Indian army rum masala, to Goan prawn curry. A whole lobster is simmered with 5-spice in a creamed mustard paste, while an impressive vegetarian selection includes chickpea, paneer, aubergine and lentil recipes. Blending Indian and western influence, desserts at the Itihaas restaurant in Birmingham delight with chocolate and coconut samosas, and naan bread and butter pudding. Slate walls and plate glass line the restaurant interior, evoking a sophisticated colonial ambience. Looking out onto the Birmingham Canal, Itihaas sits in the Jewellery Quarter on Fleet Street.
