“Lugovskaya Sloboda” is a unique place. I visit it every time I am in Omsk (by myself or with the family). It’s not just a restaurant where you can have a great meal. It’s an experience. First, upon entering, you plunge into the world of XIX century merchant’s house. In this cozy authentic interior you feel you’ve traveled in time. The menu (a thick book!) stuns with an assortment of Russian dishes of the epoch and you realize: people back then knew few things about good cuisine and how to enjoy it. Besides, the menu itself is a piece of art that is worth reading, while waiting for your “ukha with pampushkas” or “kholodets with white mushrooms” as appetizers: every dish has an authentic name (like it was called back then) and some have paragraphs of well written historical descriptions. All sorts of freshly squeezed beverages - “vyzhimkas” - made of fruits and veggies (celery, for example) are available to start the journey. For the main course you can choose from a wide range of treats - from Russian pies, “pirozhki”, pelmeni and vareniki (with all bells and whistles) to sturgeon, game and marble beef steak. You can even try all sorts of kasha if you wish! And for dessert you may go with an exquisite pastry, or try a traditional “kisel’ ”, or a delicious Russian hot drink “sbiten’ ”, or simply have a pile of blinis with wild strawberry jam made right here at “Lugovskaya” (with berries picked up in Omsk forests). And by the way, all their jams, as well as marinated mushrooms or vegetables, are made here too! And they, of course, bake their own bread. At "Lugovskaya" you can book a private cabinet to celebrate an important event, or simply drop by for an “olivier salad with quail” or “okroshka” for a quick lunch. It’s enjoyable in any format. A full meal can be pricey but quality and experience itself are all worth it.
